We are looking for a talented Communications Manager to tell the stories of our attorneys, our clients, and our work. This role focuses on transforming complex legal content into compelling, digestible content, from ideation and strategy, to writing and editing, to execution and delivery.

The ideal candidate is an idea generator who truly loves to write. Projects include client alerts, articles and interview responses, case studies, award submissions, press releases, proposals and pitch materials, and more. We are looking for a team player to jump in on a variety of projects and work in a highly collaborative environment. High levels of organization and attention to detail are must-haves.

This position is based in Chicago, IL and offers a hybrid work option with up to two days per week working remotely. 

The Communications Manager responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead marketing communications efforts at the firm, practice, and attorney levels
  • Write and edit a variety of content that focuses on the matters, deals, and cases our attorneys handle for our clients
  • Create and maintain marketing content, including attorney bios, practice and industry group descriptions, and stories of representative experience
  • Work alongside attorneys to strategize, write and edit, and distribute legal articles and other thought leadership pieces
  • Create proposals and pitch materials that highlight the firm’s value proposition, top-tier team of attorneys, and deep experience
  • Handle award submissions for Chambers and Partners rankings as well as other recognition opportunities
  • Spearhead efforts to create and maintain an experience database


Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience in a law firm or another professional services setting
  • Subject matter familiarity of two or more corporate legal services such as mergers and acquisitions, commercial litigation, private equity, and commercial real estate
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in journalism, communications, marketing, or similar field
  • Strong writing and editing skills, including a mastery of AP Style
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and committed to work product excellence
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with attorneys and staff
  • Experience creating, editing, managing, and distributing content
  • Team player and client service-oriented
  • Demonstrated project, time, and expectation management skills
  • Out-of-the-box thinking and willingness to try new approaches, keeping an eye on trends and best practices in marketing and law firm communications
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with content management systems, email marketing platforms, and contact and experience databases a plus
  • Familiarity with Google Analytics and data reporting a plus
