The Royal Academy of Music is a creative and vibrant workplace with a diverse mix of students and staff from over 60 countries. Many of the world’s leading musicians and performers have studied with us and we are firmly focused on developing tomorrow’s musical leaders in a number of disciplines, including classical performance, composition, opera, jazz, and musical theatre. Integral to the musical training we offer is the opportunity to perform; in an average year, the Academy runs a programme of around 500 events.

Philanthropy plays a significant role in the life of the Academy and supports our mission to develop and educate the musicians of tomorrow. Since 2013, the Academy has raised over £42 million through philanthropic donations, and exciting plans are underway to develop a campaign to celebrate the Academy’s Bicentenary in 2022.

To support this ambitious campaign we are seeking an ambitious and experienced Legacy Manager to join the Advancement team. You will develop and lead the Academy’s rapidly expanding legacy programme, cultivating strong relationships with prospects capable of making legacy gifts, generating increased awareness of legacy giving at the Academy and supporting and stewarding existing legacy supporters to ensure retention and lifetime giving. With proven success in legacy fundraising and strong communications skills, you will also inspire and support Development colleagues to talk about legacies with confidence and be a source of specialist information for donors and Academy staff.

You will enjoy using your excellent administration, organisation and prioritisation skills in a busy role and have good knowledge of MS Office and experience of maintaining database systems. It is also essential that you have excellent communication skills and are able to articulate the needs of the Academy to potential donors.

To be successful in this role you will have previous experience of working within a professional fundraising environment and you will be familiar with fundraising or marketing through a variety of channels, including events, digital, face to face and direct mail solicitations and comfortable working to ambitious KPIs in preparation for the Academy’s bicentenary.

You will be educated to a degree level or have equivalent experience or training, with excellent IT skills including Raiser’s Edge or NXT, MS Word and Excel. Experience working in a philanthropic fundraising environment in the arts or higher education would be an advantage, along with an interest in music and the arts.

Completed applications must be received by 10am on Monday 12 July 2021.

Interviews are expected to be held via Teams on Monday 19 July 2021.

Enquiries or applications from recruitment agencies will not be accepted.

The Academy is committed to promoting the welfare and safeguarding of all students.

We particularly welcome applications from black, Asian and minority ethnic candidates, LGBTQ+ candidates and candidates with disabilities because we would like to increase the representation of these groups in these roles. We want to do this because we know greater diversity will lead to greater results for students.
